For over a decade, Compudata has been providing web hosting services to small and medium businesses in Canada.  Since that time, Compudata’s core business model has evolved, and so has the web hosting landscape as well.   As a result of Compudata’s evolution a decision had been made to focus our resources on our managed IT solutions. Please read the following FAQ and contact us directly with any questions.

Let us know if you are interested in learning more about Compudata’s Managed IT Services and how we can support your website under a service agreement.

When will the Shared Web Hosting shut down?

Compudata will be discontinuing Shared Web Hosting service on March 31st, 2019.

What does this mean for existing Compudata web hosting clients?

Compudata clients using our shared hosting offering will need to migrate to a new service or alternative shared service provider.  Compudata is recommending Canadian web hosts who we will work with in order to help our clients migrate their hosting with little to no increase in cost or disruption of service.

I have already paid for a year of hosting.  Will I be reimbursed?

Compudata will refund the pro-rated difference of your unused hosting for customers on yearly terms.  This refund will be calculated and issued after you have successfully migrated to a new service or service provider, or by March 31st, 2019.

Who is Compudata recommending for shared web hosting?

Compudata understands our clients have chosen our service for various reasons.  Our criteria for selecting the options in our list of suggestions was as follows:

  • They must have reasonable prices and quality support
  • They must provide hosting on servers physically located in Canada
  • They must bill in Canadian currency
  • They must use the same or similar technology that we use in our hosting, (for compatibility and simple migrations)

If you agree with our criteria, Compudata suggests one of the three following shared web hosting providers as a possible new home for your website:

  • https://www.hostpapa.ca/  - HostPapa is a Canadian web hosting provider, and they offer Localized Hosting in Toronto (https://www.hostpapa.ca/web-hosting-toronto.html) and 5 other provinces
  • https://whc.ca/ - Web Host Canada is a Canadian web hosting provider located in Montreal Quebec, with servers in Canada
  • https://hostupon.ca/ - HostUpon has Canadian plans on servers localized in Canada (https://www.hostupon.ca/canadian-hosting.php)
I’d rather use a different shared web host.

There is no requirement to use our recommendations.  You are free to choose any new home for your website project; however, we can’t guarantee the host you choose will be compatible with our own shared web hosting technologies.  Compudata will support our recommended providers with your migration if it is required.

How much will it cost?

All our recommendations are priced competitively in the Canadian market, and their plans are straight forward and are available for review at their respective websites.  Most customers shouldn’t need to spend more than they are spending today.

What about my domain names and certificates?

Compudata will continue to offer domain names, DNS hosting, and certificates indefinitely.  There is no need to move your domains if you do not wish to, and you can continue to purchase high-trust certificates through Compudata.

Will I have time to migrate to before March 31st, 2019?

Website migrations take relatively little time.  Because Compudata and our recommended shared web hosting providers utilize the same essential server technologies, we expect the migrations will be simple and straight forward.

Will there be an interruption to my web site or email?

Every effort will be made to ensure downtime if any, is as minimal as possible.  Most sites will transition without anyone realizing that the hosting has changed.

We mainly utilize Compudata web hosting for Email only.

Good news!  Compudata is a Microsoft Cloud Service Provider, and we are offering a discount to existing web hosting clients who wish to migrate to Office 365.  Until March 31st, 2019, Compudata web hosting clients will receive a 50% discount on the per-mailbox migration fee for Office 365 Business plans.  Contact us for more details on this offer.

Is Compudata abandoning cloud services?

No, not at all.  In fact, we are expanding our offerings.  Compudata offers a range of solutions all based in the cloud, including business productivity software and solutions, email solutions, security solutions, and virtual servers.
Compudata also will be continuing to offer Managed Business Hosting.  If you are interested to upgrade your current Shared Hosting account, please contact us.
